Description

CRANBROOK CRANBROOK COMMON TQ 73 NE (west side) 3/89 - Staddleden - II Hall-house, now house. Late C15 or early C16, with alterations, extensions and cladding of 1908, possibly by Mervyn Macartney, 1908. Timber framed and clad in applied framing with plaster infilling to front. Red brick on ground floor to sides and rear, weatherboarded above. Projecting red brick wing to right, tile hung only on bay and in gable. Plain tiled hipped roof, with lower half hipped roof over wing to right. 2 hipped dormers and large brick stack off-centre to left. 2 storeys and attic. Irregular fenestration of 4 windows on first floor and 3 on ground floor. Gabled and weatherboarded porch with half glazed inner door and boarded outer door off-centre to left. Hipped 2 storey square bay on end of right hand wing and 1 window on each floor of re- entrance face of wing. Gabled and half timbered 2 storey bay on left return front. C16 wing to rear, with addition to right with triple span roof. Interior: substantial timber frame with jowled posts. Inserted brick stacks. Collar purl in crown post roof. Listing NGR: TQ7853838930
