GROSVENOR ROAD TQ 5839 NW 3/334                                                          Nos 86 and 88                                                              II Former purpose built carriage factory later used as educational establishment. Built c1891, architect H Cronk,in Queen Anne style.  Built of brick with terracotta details, internally supported by girders which are probably of wrought iron.  Slate roof, 3 storeys and attics and basement. 6 windows to main front along Grosvenor Road. Attic storey has central elaborate Dutch gable with console brackets and 2 casement windows flanked by triangular pediments with ball finials and Diocletian windows. Corners have slim octagonal turrets with ogee caps.  2nd floor windows are paired mullioned and transomed casements set in round headed arches with keystones and elaborate terracotta decoration to arches and decorated aprons.  1st floor windows are similar but without the round-headed arches.  Ground floor has deep fascia and central doorcase with ramped up pediment like projection over it. Double doors flanked by pilasters.  4 shop fronts divided by pilasters,  the top parts of the windows divided into tiny sections.  Basement has cambered arches. Grosvenor Park elevation is in vernacular style with 1 pediment.  Corner octagonal turrets with ogee caps and 3 windows.  Further plainer section to rear of 3 storeys and basement of lower elevation.  Brick with slate roof.  5 cambered mullioned and transomed windows with keystones and similar ground floor treatment.  Internally the accommodation originally comprised showrooms on the ground floor and carriage makers and body makers shops on the 1st floor and painters and trimmers shops on the 2nd floor with a central carriage lift.
