Description

FRITTENDEN STAPLEHURST ROAD TQ 84 SW (north side) 3/47 Lake House GV II House. C15, extended and altered C17 to C19. Timber framed, clad with weather boarding and tile-hanging to 1st floor, and part exposed to rear right with plaster infill. Plain tiled roof. Probable hall house in origin. Road front: 2 storeys with 2 moulded bargeboarded gables, that to left larger with 2 tripartite sashes on each floor and glazed door. Left return with glazing bar sash to left on 1st floor and to right on ground floor, with wooden casement at end left. Rear right returns present entrance front. 2 storeys, with project- ing cross-hipped wing to right, with exposed frame on 1st floor and large stack cluster to centre. Separately hipped wing to left, with stack at end left. Wooden casement to left. glazing bar sash to right on 1st floor; 3-light wooden casement to right on ground floor, with mullioned window to left to curved link- ing passage (to adjoining barn, now converted to part of residence). Central boarded door with flat hood on brackets. The exposed frame is not the original exterior wall of the building, as shown by exposed mortices, but on interior truss, with arch-braced tile beam.
