Description

TQ 67 BRENCHLEY HIGH STREET, BRENCHLEY (south side) 15/118 Marchant chest tomb and railings about 19m north of the church porch, west side of the path II GV Chest tomb and railings. Early C19. Portland stone with cast iron railings. Coped chest tomb with an oversailing lid and rounded, bead-moulded corner pilasters on a bead-moulded plinth on 2 steps. Rectangular inscription panels on the long sides of the chest have reeded frames, oval panels on the ends. Inscriptions commemorate Mr Bold Marchant, d.1814 and his wife and daugthers. Original railings surround the tomb with square-section verticals with spear finials, the principal standards columnar with urn finials with a gate at the west end. A very complete monument in an outstanding churchyard. Listing NGR: TQ6796141733
