House. Circa late C17 origins, thoroughly remodelled and extended in the early C18, additions and alterations of the 1960s (information from the owner). C17 block framed construction, clad in weatherboarding grooved in imitation of rusticated stone; circa early C18 block white painted brick to the ground floor, the first floor framed and plastered; peg-tile roofs; brick stacks.
Plan: Overall T-plan, the house faces approximately east. The circa early C18 entrance block is roofed on a north south axis and consists of a large entrance hall containing the stair to the left (south) and a principal room to the north heated from a north end stack. A south crosswing at right angles is of C17 origins but has been recast in the early C18 and is now 2 rooms on plan, heated by a stack at the junction with the entrance block. There have been rear additions to the entrance block.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 1:3 window entrance (east) front, the one window to the east end of the crosswing which has a half-hipped roof. Circa early C18 projecting porch with Doric columns and pilasters to left of centre in the main block. The porch has a deep horizontal hood with mutules. Probably C20 front door with fielded panels. Various sash windows: ground floor window left in the main block, alongside the porch is a 3 over 6-pane sash, the panes of the upper light with arched heads. Tripartite C18 sash to the right of the porch, 16-pane in the centre, 4-pane in the outer lights. 3 first floor 3 over 6-pane sashes. The end of the crosswing, to the left, has a 2 storey canted bay glazed with sash windows, 16-pane in the centre, 8-pane to the returns. 4 over 8-pane attic window. The left (south) return (the C17 crosswing) is 5-bays. Central French window, probably C20, with a flat porch hood on brackets. 4 ground floor 6 over 9-pane sashes, 5 first floor 12-pane sashes. The rear (west) elevation of the wing has a first floor C20 French window on to a small balcony with Chinese Chippendale style balustrade. The rear additions have timber casement windows.
Interior: The C17 wing has been re-partitioned and retains one chamfered scroll-stopped ceiling beam. High quality probably C19 white marble chimney- piece to the east room. The main room in the entrance block also has a white marble chimney-piece. The stair is said to be late C20, in an C18 style with barleysugar balusters, an open string and ramped handrail.
