Description

HAWKHURST THE MOOR TQ 7429-7529 (south side) 18/377 Row of 5 headstones to Chittenden family, 2 to 10 metres north of Church of St Lawrence GV II Row of headstones. John Chittenden, clothier, d.1706. About 3 feet high, with raised surround and scrolled and domed-shaped head with crude incised skull and crossed bones. John Chittenden, d.1737. About 3½ feet high with ambitious but crudely executed head, scrolled shoulders to scrolled swan-neck cornice, with putti bearing crown over skull. Nathan Chittenden, d.1728. In every respect similar to that of John Chittenden, the elder, except for an incised profile head at top. Mary Chittenden, d,1716, identical to that of John Chittenden the elder, first described. Rebecca Chittenden, d.1722, identical to the last. Listing NGR: TQ7558629462
