6/332 Putlands Farmhouse including garden walls and railings to the west II
Farmhouse including walls and railings to the garden in front. Circa 1850 or earlier. Brick with a slate roof and brick stacks. Brick garden walls, cast iron railings.
Plan: The house faces west and is set back from the road with a long rectangular garden in front. Double depth house, 2-rooms wide with a central entrance and a separately-roofed service block to the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Hipped slate roof to the main block, gabled roof to the service block; end stacks to the main block, left end stack to the service block. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central flat-roofed C20 porch with a C20 timber front door. The windows have flat rubbed brick arches and are glazed with late C19/early C20 4-pane plate glass horned sash windows. The walls to the north and south of the garden have brick coping. To the west the garden is bounded by cast iron C19 railings with spearhead finials, matching the garden gate.
Interior: Not accessible at time of survey (1989).
The house forms a good roadside group with the barn (q.v.) and oasthouse (q.v).
