Description

TQ 53 NW SPELDHURST THE GREEN (east side), LANGTON GREEN 7/486 Penn Cottage GV II Small house. Probably mid C19 with some C20 modernisation. Ground floor level is Flemish bond red brick patched with stretcher bond red brick at the south end. Timber-framed above and hung with peg-tile. Brick stack and chimneyshaft with chimneypots. Peg-tile roof. Plan: 2-room plan cottage facing west toward The Green. Axial stacks between the rooms serves back-to-back fireplaces. Entrance porch on right (south) end recessed from front and rising to small parallel rear service block that end. 2 storeys. Exterior: House has regular 2-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars. Roof is gable-ended. Doorway recessed facing forward on right end; it contains C20 panelled door. Roof rises to 2 storeys and is gable-ended. Interior: Was not available for inspection at the time of this survey. Penn Cottage forms part of an attractive and varied group of buildings along the east side of The Green. Listing NGR: TQ5436239307
