TQ 53 37 SPELDHURST GROOMBRIDGE HILL (east side) OLD GROOMBRIDGE 16/511 Camfield chest tomb approx 4m south of the nave of the Chapel Of St John GV II
Chest tomb. Dated 1812 in memory of Anne Camfield. Sandstone ashlar. Chest tomb is rectangular in plan with fluted corner pilasters, flat lid with moulded edges, moulded base and one-step plinth. Side panels with indented corners. Inscription opens with Gothic lettering, rest is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. South panel records the death of Anne Camford in 1812. The lid and north panel record the deaths of other members of the Camfield family.
