Description
TQ 55 41 SPELDHURST SPELDHURST HILL (north side), SPELDHURST 12/557 Group of 3 chest tombs approx 9m north of the aisle of the Church of St Mary the Virgin GV II
Group of 3 chest tombs dated between 1833-1835. The oldest is sandstone. It is rectangular in plan with inset corner pilasters with moulded caps and bases. Flat lid has moulded edges and moulded plinth below. Sides have fielded panels. South side has inscription in Roman serif capitals (like the other two) which records the death of Philip Brentridge in 1833. Other two are white marble. They are basically similar with projecting corner pilasters. The one with projecting panels with indented corners commemorates the death of Mary Anderson in 1834. The other has panels with moulded frames and commemorates the death of James Ferry in 1835.
