LAMBERHURST THE BROADWAY TQ 6636-6736 (east side) 8/237 Section of railings adjoining village hall GV II
Section of railings. Late C17, re-set here late C20. Cast iron on stone base in red brick walling. This railed panel, as a nearby plaque records, was cast in Lamberhurst to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren, and formed part of the railed yard around St. Paul's Cathedral, London, until donated to Lamberhurst by the Dean and Chapter of St.Paul's. The panel consists of a principal upright in the form of a turned baluster with baluster finial and with scrolled bracing piece, flanked on either side by two baluster type uprights with spear heads and intermediate spear heads on both rail and base.
