LAMBERHURST COUSLEY WOOD TQ 63 SE(TQ 63 SW) Wadhurst 5/147 Three Chimneys GV II
House. C16 altered C17 extended late C20. Timber finned and part exposed with plaster infill, part tile hung on painted brick base. Plain tiled roof. Possible hall house origin. Two storeys with hipped roof and stacks to right and to centre left and left. Four wooden casements an each floor, of 1, 2 and 3 lights, that to right in outshot; the doorway, originally to centre left, now in raking porch in re-entrant angle to late C20 wing at left. Rear elevation with exposed frame of tension braced large panels, altered with smaller panels to right, on sandstone base; roof with 2 gabled dormers; three 2 light leaded wooden casements and projecting single storey extension to left. Interior: full frame visible, the wall exposed in right end outshot with massive arched broom and lozenge set window mullion mortices, the ground floor receiled at tine of insertion of stack, and the lower (northern) end of the house possibly rebuilt at same time. Stack with very wide painted stone inglenook with bread oven attached. C17 queen strut roof.
