Description

The following Building shall be added:- GOUDHURST LADHAM ROAD TQ 73 NW FORSTALL COTTAGE 5/481 II House, Formerly pair of cottages. Probably C16 altered and divided into two cottages subsequently and restored in 1990-1991. Weatherboarded timber frame on stone rubble and brick plinth. Steeply pitched plain tile roof with small gablets at ends of ridge. Brick axial stack behind ridge. 2- bay plan, the right (north) bay 2 storeys, its first floor jettied at the north end, the left (south) bay subdivided (probably later). lobby entrance at centre in front of central axial stack heating the right (north) room. The stack appears to have been inserted later, suggesting the left end was originally open to the roof. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window east front. C20 1 and 2 light casements with glazing bars. Central doorway with large C20 weatherboarded porch with hipped roof. Symmetrical 4-window rear (west) elevation with C20 2-light casements on south end. North end has jettied first floor, the jetty beams on curved brackets and with small diamond mullion window on the ground floor. Interior: Intermediate phase joinery removed and floor beams and joist replaced. Walls have exposed sole and wall-plates, curved tension braces in end walls and wall posts with jowled heads. 2-bay crown post roof with tall square crown posts, 2-way curved bracing and many common rafters intact.
