Description

TQ 64 SW PEMBURY OLD CHURCH ROAD 5/408 Pair of Hartridge headstones approx 4m west south west of the tower of the Old Church of St Peter GV II Pair of adjacent headstones. Dated 1684 and 1782 in memory of members of the Hartridge family. Both are upright slabs of sandstone with shaped heads. The oldest is the smaller of the two to right standing approx 500mm high. Its recessed front is inscribed in Roman serif capitals and records the death of Michael Hartridge in 1684. The left hand headstone stands approx 1.2m high. Its head is carved with 2 winged cherubs heads in profile facing each other amongst scrolls. The inscription is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and it records the deaths of James Hartridge in 1764 and his wife Elizabeth in 1782. Listing NGR: TQ6268442960
