Description
TQ 54 SW SPELDHURST BULLINGSTONE LANE
3/468 Barn approx 6m north east of 17.8.87 Little Laverall
GV II
Barn, probably stables originally. C19. Exposed timber-framing on coursed sandstone footings, part is thatched, part has a peg-tile roof.
Plan: Range of former agricultural buildings facing south West towards Little Laverall (q.v.). Long low building to right with 2-storey section at the left end.
Exterior: The low block is 4 bays with a plank door right of centre and 3 long but narrow horizontal windows containing rectangular panes of leaded glass. Doorway in left end of the taller left block flanked by similar windows but these have glazing bars. Thatch roof is gable-ended rising up to the tile-roofed left block. Timbers of the frame of relatively narrow scantling and include mostly straight braces but a large curving tension brace at the right end may indicate older origins for the building. The building backs onto the lane and the bank is revetted with coursed sandstone.
Interior: Has plain C19 carpentry detail.
This building forms part of a group with nearby Little Laverall (q.v.) and The Cottage and Holly Cottage (q.v.).
