7/594 Barn approx 3m north of Stone Cross
GV II
Barn, now used as garage and workshop. Late C17/early C18, modernised in the C19, Weatherboarded timber frame on red brick footings with burnt headers; peg-tile roof.
Plan: Former threshing barn on a rough east west axis facing north. It has opposing double doorways through left (east) end onto the threshing floor. It was not established at the time of this survey whether the barn formerly extended further eastwards although it stands close to the farmhouse. Secondary (probably C19) lean-to outshot across front to right of doorway.
Exterior: Front doorway is now C20 garage doors below top flaps of C19 or early C20 plank doors. Roof is gable-ended.
Interior: 3-bay roof of late C17/early C18 tie-beam trusses with A-frames, staggered butt purlins and original common rafters which are mortise, tenoned and pegged into the purlins.
