Ground floor level is underbuilt with C19 Flemish bond red brick and first floor level is faced with stretcher bond red brick. Mid C19 extension is Flemish bond red brick with decorative burnt headers. Brick stacks (the C17 one on a sandstone base) and chimneyshafts. Peg-tile roof. Plan and Development: L-plan house. The main block faces south west. It has a 3-room plan. Parlour at the left (north west) end has a gable-end stack. Unheated centre room contains the main stair. Kitchen at the right end with projecting end stack. Unheated service room projects to rear. This kitchen wing was added in the mid C19 onto a C17 2-room plan house. Original front doorway (probably direct entry into the parlour) is blocked and present entrance into the right end. 2 storeys with various secondary outshots on both ends and to rear. Most are lean-to but the timber-framed one on the right end was built in the mid C20 as an entrance porch and dentist's surgery. Exterior: Irregular 3-window front of mostly various C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars. All the ground floor windows have low brick segmental arches over. First floor right window is a C19 16-pane sash. Roof is gable- ended and steps up over the right bay which is the C19 extension. Front doorway is blocked and present entrance in the right end. It contains a C20 door. Interior: The basic framed structure of the C17 2-room plan house survives more or less intact. Where exposed the wall framing is of relatively slender scantling with straight braces. The larger room has a chamfered and scroll- stopped axial beam and the fireplace is brick on a stone base with a chamfered oak lintel. Roof has been somewhat mended although there is a closed clasped side purlin truss with queen struts. Listing NGR: TQ6293540553
