Description

SOUTHBOROUGH THE COMMON (north-west side) 2/1 Oak Cottage and Cat's - Castle (Grove Lodge) - II C18 cottage, possibly originally outhouse, extended in brick and stucco, c1830, possibly by Decimus Burton. ORIGINAL COTTAGE facing west, extended alongside by 2 bays to south-east. This part with painted brick ground-floor weather-boarded 1st floor. Gabled ends of this block form end bays of the north-east and south- west fronts. SOUTH FRONT, 2 storeys and 3 bays wide, each bay unequal and topped by a gable, that over the centre smaller, lower, and more like a pediment than a true gable. Decorative barge-boards on right-hand gable. Porch with flat wooden hood to right of central window. EAST FRONT, 3 bays wide with barge boarded gables to left and right and 2-storey canted bay window of 3 lights to right. Listing NGR: TQ5755842891
