Description

TUNBRIDGE WELLS CRESCENT ROAD TQ5839SE 7/10007 Police Station and Courts GV II Police Station and courts. Built in 1939 by Percy Thomas and Ernest Prestwich after a competition in 1934 to design a complete set of adjoining municipal buildings. Neo-Georgian style with "Moderne " details. Brown brick in Flemish bond with Portland stone dressings. Flat roof. Two storeys. Four windows to front. Twenty pane sashes to first floor and twenty four pane sashes to ground floor. Band with lettering "COURT AND POLICE STATION". Central doorcase has semi-circular tympanum with classical figures with scales of justice and motto "DO WELL DOUBT NOT". Band and plinth. Bronze decoration to fanlight and bronze doors. Interior has staircase of similar type to other municipal buildings. Courts not inspected. Listing NGR: TQ5856439474
