TQ 67 41 BRENCHLEY HIGH STREET, BRENCHLEY (south side) Marchant chest tomb and 15/117 railings about 13m north of the church porch, west side of the path of the Church of All Saints GV II
Chest tomb and surrounding railings. Late C18 Portland stone and white marble; cast iron railings. Rectangular chest on a deep, moulded plinth with a flat, oversailing lid, moulded corner pilasters and similar pilasters to the centre of the sides and ends. White marble inscription panels commemorate Thomas Marchant, died 1768, and other members of the family. Cartouche with armorial bearings on the west end. The railings have diagonally-set square section verticals with plain spoke finials, the principal standards columnar with depressed ball finials.
A very complete monument in an outstanding churchyard.
