GV II
Large house. Circa 1840s with later C19 and C20 alterations including a C20 addition at the left (south) end. Stuccoed and blocked out; slate roof; stacks with rendered shafts.
Plan: The house is sited on the edge of Matfield Green and faces approximately east. Long irregular plan of adjoining blocks with an entrance to right of centre into a stair hall.
Exterior: 2 and 3 storeys. Asymmetrical 2:1:1:1:1 window front made up of 5 staggered facades, the first, fourth and fifth gabled to the front, the second hipped, the third half-hipped. Deep eaves supported on moulded brackets. The first and fourth (which is the entrance facade) have curly pierced bargeboards and finials and pendants to the apex, the right end block is 3 storeys with a shallow 2-tier bay in the centre. Recessed porch with a cranked arch and moulded capitals at the springing, keyblock over the arch. The left return has a crank-arched unglazed window with a keyblock. Most of the windows have keyblocks, probably 1840s but the glazing is late C19 or C20. Plate glass 2- pane tripartite sashes on either side of the porch, similar window to first floor right. Other windows are plate glass sashes and casements, some casements with high transoms. C20 flat-roofed addition at the left (south) end.
Interior: Not fully inspected but retains an early C19 stick baluster stair.
Included for group value.
