Description

TR 14 SW HASTINGLEIGH 5/72 Court Lodge GV II House. C16 and earlier, clad and extended 1835 and altered 1949. Timber framed core, clad and extended with red brick with plain tiled roof. Two storeys and garret, with single storey entrance lobby, overhanging eaves on iron brackets, and kneelered gabled roof. Stacks to left and to right. Irregular fenestration of mid C20 metal casements with tall stair window on right return. Central double panelled C20 door. Round headed gauged window surrounds to garret, that to left return with early C19 leaded light. Three glazing bar sashes to each floor on garden front (originally with central door). Interior: almost enclosed by the 1835 building is a timber framed hall house structure, with ovolo and fillet moulded cross-beamed ceilings, with some structural posts and large scantling tie beams also exposed. Within the 1835 roof but structure totally redundant are 1 ½ bays of the medieval roof, smoke blackened, sans purlin with steeply cambered collars. Large early C19 kitchen inglenook. Until the alterations of 1949 a solar room with a large fireplace existed. A primary manorial site. (See M.W. Harwood, Hastingleigh, 1957; Arthur Mash, Hastingleigh 1985). Listing NGR: TR1020044556
