TR 03 NW MERSHAM SOUTH STOUR 6/153 Elm Tree Farmhouse 13.10.52 II House. Mid C16. Timber framed, exposed close studding with plaster infill, part underbuilt with painted brick, and tile hung with plain tiled roof. Lobby entry plan of 4 framed bays. Two storeys on plinth with continuous jetty, returned to right on dragon post. Hipped roof with stack to left. Three wooden casements on first floor, with infilled mullioned lights to right. Three tripartite wooden casements on ground floor, with small light to left of doorway, and opened panels to centre. Plank and stud door to left with C19 flat hood on brackets. Catslide outshot to rear. Three insurance plaques adorn the front elevation. Internal well. The scene of a skirmish between Bow Street runners and the notorious smuggling Ransley gang.
