TR 03 NE MERSHAM THE STREET (west side) 7/164 The Royal Oak and house/office attached GV II Public House, private house and office. C16 or earlier, altered and extended C18-mid C19. Timber framed core, part tile hung and clad with painted brick, extended with rendered brick. Plain tiled roof. Hall house core, with irregular projecting wings to front and return elevations. Central block of 2 storeys, with jetty and hipped roof with gablets and central stack and raking half-dormer with wooden casement on ground floor with 6 panelled door to left, the top panels glazed. Extended to right (public house), 2 storeys and attic with dormer and stack to right. Two glazing bar sashes on 1st floor, and projecting ground floor with 2 glazing bar sashes and bay to left with central half-glazed door. Further extended to right with 2 storey hipped wing, projecting slightly, with 1 glazing bar sash to left on each floor, and blank window space to right on 1st floor, with large carriage passage to rear courtyard (with hay basket attached to inner wall) to right on ground floor. Boarded door to left. C19 shop extension to left of timber framed range, with returned hip roof, 2 margin light sashes on 1st floor and double canted bay front with recessed central double panelled doors with rectangular fanlight. Large cornice fascia on enriched consoles over whole of ground floor. Interior: frame visible. Listing NGR: TR0526839826
