Description

TR 03 NW MERSHAM FLOOD STREET (west side) 6/111 Denne and projecting 27.11.57 walls II House. C16 or earlier core, refronted late C18. Timber framed origin, clad with galleted ragstone, extended with tuck-pointed red brick. Plain tiled roof. Two parallel ranges. Entrance front: 2 storeys on ragstone plinth, with 3 gauged brick arches on ground floor, and paired modillion eaves cornice to hipped roof with rear stacks. Four glazing bar sashes with louvred shutters on 1st floor, and 3 on ground floor with gauged heads. Door to centre left, with moulded panels and moulded circular central panel, with traceried semi-circular fanlight and pediment on fluted pilasters. Projecting from left a brick wall about 7 feet high with boarded gateway, projecting about 20 metres. Wall projecting to right, about 10 metres, on ragstone base. Rear wing clad in part in galleted ragstone. Interior: reeded moulded doorways and modillion cornices (much late C20 restoration) and keyed segmental doorways. Bolection moulded fireplace. Half-landing and dog leg stair with iron-twist pattern turned balusters with turned baluster newels, and scrolled tread-ends. Rear range: C16 clasped purlin roof, with re-used smoke-blackened timbers, and remains of even earlier cross roof. Listing NGR: TR0469938350
