Description

1. 5272 HOTHFIELD WEST STREET Nos 1 to 9 (consec) TQ 94 NE 11/90 II 2. Dated 1834. The centre portion was originally the village school, but a separate building was erected further east later in the C19. Two storeys red brick. Hipped slate roof with eaves cornice. Twelve windows in all. The centre house projects and has a higher elevation than the others and 6 sash windows with glazing bars intact. Its 2 centre window bays project still further. Central porch with eaves cornice, hipped slate roof, round-headed doorway with semi-circular fanlight and inner door of 6 panels, and stone panel over inscribed:- "These schools were erected by the Earl of Thanet in 1834". The wings have casement windows, Nos 7 and 8 having altered windows and Nos 1, 6 and 9 have later porches. Listing NGR: TQ9699345172
