Description

TR 03 SW BILSINGTON THE CROSS (north-west side) 6/61 The Old House (formerly listed 27.11.57 with The Cottage GV II House. C16. Timber framed and exposed close studding with plaster infill, the left return (present entrance front) clad with red and blue brick. Plain tiled roof. Two storeys on plinth with continuous jetty on brackets, with tension bracing on 1st floor to left, arch braced to right. Hipped roof, stepped up to right (The Cottage Item 6/60 ). Two irregularly placed wooden casements on each floor. Left return with tripartite wooden casement on each floor, that on ground floor with segmental head and cornice and boarded door to right. Stack cluster to left shared with adjoining Knight Cottage (item 6/62). Early C18. Timberframed, clad in weatherboarding with plain tiled roof. Roof half-hipped to north and gabled to south, has a hipped dormer and chimneystack to rear. Two storeys and attics: two windows. Two wooden casements on first floor and two tripartite wooden casements on ground floor with boarded door to south. Brick lean-to extension to north with sash window. An early C18 house built of local materials and forming part of a group. Listing NGR: TR0397834510
