TQ8431 ROLVENDEN MAYTHAM ROAD 18/10005 Working Men's Club II Working Men's Club. 1927-8 by Sir Edwin Lutyens for H J Tennant of the Great Maytham Estate. Kentish vernacular style. V-shaped block of one storey. Weatherboarded with hipped tiled roofs. Symmetrical composition, the central block having 3 casements (the centre 4-light, the end 3-light) with 2 half-glazed doors. On either side are projecting sections with hipped roofs, one casement and half-glazed door and a further projecting but set back wing of one bay with triple casement, tem1inating in hipped ends with brown brick external chimneystacks flanked by 4-light casements. Left side elevation has 3 wedge-shaped buttresses. Flat-roofed extension added to right hand side. Brick flat-roofed 1960s extension to rear. Simple interior with contemporary brick fireplace. Included for rarity of type by Lutyens. Listing NGR: TQ8475931059
