                            TR 03 SW                 RUCKINGE     THE CORNER                                                   (south side) 6/103                                             Ransley Cottage GV                                                II House.  C16, altered late C18. Timber framed and clad with painted brick, with plain tiled roof.  One storey and attic, present entrance front (to roadside) with catslide outshots to front and rear elevations with hipped roof and gablets and central stack, and stack to right in outshot.  Two wooden casements and central boarded door.  Half glazed doors to return and rear elevations.  Two large gabled dormers and bow windows in rear elevation (former entrance front).  Said to be birth place (1782) and home of George Ransley, leader after 1821 of the Aldington Gang, and one of the last great figures of Kentish smuggling legend.
