Description

ROCHESTER HIGH STREET TQ 7468 NW 7/57 No 46 19.2.70 GV II House with shop (not used as a dwelling at time of re-survey, 1988). Late C15 substantially remodelled in the late C17, with later alterations. Timber framed, weatherboarded, Kent tile gable end roof. Brick ridge stack. 2 unit end-jetty plan with later cross-wing to rear. 1½ storeys to front range (set end-on to High Street); 2 storeyed rear wing. Front: weatherboarded, deep 1st floor jetty. 3-light casement window to 1st floor. Late C20 shop front. Sash windows to rear which is also weatherboarded. Interior: Ground floor with raised panelling and moulded cornice of c.1760. Lateral dogleg stair with turned balusters, with associated panelled dado surviving in part. More raised panelling to 1st floor rooms, internal panelled shutters and panelled cupbaord doors with H and butterfly hinges. Planked attic door with spur hinges. Front range with crown post roof: principal members of the roof survive to front bay only: front gable wall with downward struts largely intact.
