GV II
Laundry water tower and chimney. c1900. Brick with lead pyramidal roof. Square plan. A battered tower has a plain crow-stepped gable to the entrance front defined by 8 round-arched recessed panels above, to an overhanging brick tank on false machicolations with gabled half dormers, to the sloping roof, to a central octagonal truncated chimney. Segmental-arched ground-floor openings, with a central doorway and flanking windows with metal frames, and an oculus above. HISTORY: a notable unified water tower and boiler chimney, and part of a former military hospital with wards and clock tower (not included). A rare design, listed for its landmark value and architectural interest. Flanking laundry buildings are not of special interest.
