Description

GILLINGHAM TQ7668NW PROSPECT ROW, Brompton 686-1/5/44 (East side) 21/12/73 No.9 (Formerly Listed as: PROSPECT ROW, Brompton Nos.2-20 (Consecutive)) GV II House. Early C18. Painted stucco with brick stacks to the right-hand gable and behind the ridge, and tiled roof. STYLE: Early Georgian. PLAN: double-depth. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 2-window range. A parapeted front is framed by shallow pilaster strips and frieze; left-hand doorway has a raised surround, enriched brackets and cornice broken forward over them, plate-glass rectangular overlight and door with a single raised panel. Windows have wide, shallow surrounds with vermiculated panels, voussoirs and key, and aprons with 3 half round panels, to 6/6-pane sashes. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORY: Prospect Row was built between 1705 and 1756. Part of a good mixed terrace of early-mid Georgian houses. (MacDougall P: The Chatham Dockyard Story: Rainham: 1987-: 66).
