TR 24 SE TEMPLE EWELL LONDON ROAD (North side) 4/83 22.8.66 Woodville (formerly GV listed as Woodville Hall II
House. Circa 1840 for Ellice family, extended c.1900. Stucco with slate roof. Two storeys with projecting centre and an attic on plinth with heavy moulded plaster cornice and parapet to mansard roof with 3 flat roofed dormers and stacks to end left and to end right. Regular fenestration of 5 glazing bar sashes on first floor and 4 cross windows with margin lights on ground floor all with moulded architraves, ground floor windows with flying cornices, and sunk panels between the 2 floors. Central door of 6 sunk panels with sidelights and traceried elliptical fanlight in large fluted Tuscan porch with 7 moulded steps and baluster shaped iron rails. Recessed 2 storey wing to left (c.1900) with stacks at end left, and details copied from main block. Blank window spaces on right return. Projecting oriel to rear. Interior elliptical geometric stair with wreathed rail, twisted iron balusters and bracketed string. Top lit by oval cupola with acanthus cornice. Elliptically arched passage screens and arches. Anthemion and palmette ceiling cornices and roses survive. Drawing room with central shuttered partition. Marble fireplaces, shuttered windows and enriched door surrounds all survive intact, with cast iron central heating cases of c.1900. Services originally in cellars.
