Description

TR 13 NE SALTWOOD RECTORY LANE (North End) 4/70 Bennington II House. 1925 by Bailie Scott and Beresford. Red and grey brick, largely in stretcher bond, with lighter red brick quoins and dressings. Plain tile roof. Double depth. 2 storeys and attic on brick plinth. Plain brick eaves band and plain stone-coped parapet. Central 3 bays break forward slightly. Raised brick panels below cills of ground-floor windows of break. Lighter red brick "chainage" end panel between ground and first floor windows of main range. Mansard roof, returning to right and left. Broad rear stack to left and to right gable end. 3 raking dormers. Regular 5 window front of 4 12-pane sashes in open boxes with splayed rubbed brick voussoirs, and central bulls-eye. Central door of 6 fielded panels with semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing-bars, in architrave with Doric pilasters and scrolled pediment. Single-storey brick extension to left. Interior: only partly inspected. Hall floor, panelling, staircase and fireplaces in an C18 style. Said to have been the retirement gift of the parishoners of Church of St. Leonard, Hythe, to their vicar. Listing NGR: TR1563836246
