Description

TR 14 NW ELMSTEAD - 1/112 Little Gains House 29.12.66 II House. Later C16, with C18 and C19 alterations. Timber framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in a mixed bond, first-floor timber- framed with rendered infilling. Left gable end red and grey brick in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof. Lobby-entry plan of 3 timber-framed bays and stack bay. 2 storeys. Flint plinth with brick top course. Broadly-spaced studding and two tension braces to first floor. Hipped roof, with gablet to left. Multiflue brick ridge stack towards left end. Irregular fenestration of 4 small casements; one two-light to left end bay, one single-light and one two-light to right-central bay and one two-light to right end bay. Boarded double doors under stack. Leaded two-light casement with old glass to left end of ground floor. Painted brick rear lean-to, raised to two storeys at left end. Interior: axial joists to short left end bay. Chamfered axial beam and joists to right-central bay. Bevelled axial joists to right end room. Gunstock-jowled posts. Tension-braced stud partition to first floor between right-central and right end bays. Six-light diamond- mullion rear ground-floor window to right end bay, and similar five- light window to first floor above. Brick fireplace with chamfered cambered bressumer with hollow spandrels.
