TR 1643-1743 ELHAM THE SQUARE (east side) 9/73 No. 1 (Couttie's Wynde, formerly 29.12.66 listed as Crown House), No. 2 and No. 3. GV II House row. No. 1 formerly The Crown public house. Nos. 1 and 2 have C18 facade to a possibly earlier building. No. 3 (to left) probably mid-to-late C18. No. 3 red and grey brick in a Flemish-type bond. Nos. 1 and 2 painted brick. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys. Rendered plinth to No. 3. Plat band, slightly lower to No. 3. Boxed eaves to No. 3. Small brick corbel to right end of No. 1. Gabled roof over all. Central rear stack to No. 3. Rear gable-end stack to left to No. 2, central multiple brick stack to rear between Nos. 1 and 2, and ridge stack to right gable end. Irregular fenestration of 5 sashes in open boxes; one sixteen-pane with splayed painted voussoirs to right of centre of No. 3, two sixteen-pane sashes to No. 2 and two, more closely spaced, to No. 1. Segmental heads to ground-floor sashes. Boarded door in lean-to brick porch with plain tile roof to left end of No. 3, door with six flush panels, plain rectangular fanlight and segmental head to No. 2, between two first-floor windows. Similar door to No. 1, under second first-floor window from right. Rendered two-storey rear wing to No. 3, with lower eaves and ridge and three-quarters hipped plain tile roof. Short two-storey brick rear wing to left of No. 2, with hipped plain tile roof. Rear lean-to to rest. Interior not inspected. Listing NGR: TR1773243858
