Description

TQ 995 264 BROOKLAND 5/24 Misleham 9.6.59 II House. Late C18 and early C19 with mid-to-late C19 alterations. Fragments of timber frame. Now red brick with occasional grey headers in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys. Gable end stacks. Regular 3-window front of 2 tripartite sashes and central sash. 2 ground floor canted bay windows. Central door of 4 fielded panels and top lights. Doorcase with plain pilasters and frieze, and short flat hood. Probably integral central rear wing, extended to rear (with red brick ground floor and tile-hung first floor) in early C19, and to right (in brick) in C20. Short left rear return wing. Interior: fragments of timber framing. Moulded cornice to ground floor room to right. Staggered butt-purlin roof of re-used timbers, including some from smoke-blackened crown-post roof.
