Description
Four Palaeolithic handaxes found circa 1900 in the garden of Cuxton Rectory. Excavation of the site was undertaken in 1962-3 and in 1984 excavations took place in the garden opposite the rectory garden. 212 handaxes, 12 cores 70 retouched flakes, 404 flakes, 33 miscellaneous objects, 3 Levallois cores and 6 Levallois flakes were found from the two excavations. Objects were found in an area of Head Brickearth above bedded gravel geology. A small quantity of palaeoliths were also found in Sandy Loam above the Head Brickearth.
