Mount Ephraim 7/138 II GV
House. 1695, rebuilt 1878 and extended 1913 all for Dawes family. Red brick and slate roof. Irregular plan with rectangular main block, and service wings to right and rear right. Two storeys on plinth with cornice and parapet, with projecting window bay to left and recessed wing to right. Hipped roof with several stacks ranged left to right. Central leaded cupola. Sash windows in stone surroundsin I:5:5 pattern on first floor, and I:3:5 on ground floor. Double doors of 3 raised and fielded panels each to centre Left with rectangular fanlight. Heavy cornice and parapet on fluted Doric columns and pilasters and flight of 6 steps. Roof parapet raised over porch with swags. Left and right returns based on brick terraces, about 3 feet high to left, up to 8 feet high to right with stone steps and balustrade. Interior: cellars survive from the earliest building, but most interiors are of C19/early C20. Heavily plastered friezes and cornices and marble fireplaces in main rooms. Marble Ionic columns and pilaster in staircase hall, with elliptical arches and panelling, egg and tongue cornices, and staircase with half-landing and guilloche pattern cast iron balusters. First floor gallery with marble balustrade, and Corinthiah columns set in antis on 2 sides. Early C20 service wings with tiled interiors.
