Description

TQ 96 SW RODMERSHAM CHURCH STREET (west side) 2/132 Rodmersham House 24.1.67 II House. Early C17 and early C19. Yellow stock brick and slate roof, with timber framed and plastered rear wing and plain tiled roof. Entrance front: 2 storeys with overhanging modillion eaves. Projecting gabled wings. 2 storeys to left, 1 storey to right. Stacks to end left, rear centre and projecting end right. Regular fenestration of 6 glazing bar sashes on first floor, that to left in end gable with semi-circular shell tympanum , the rest with gauged heads, and large glazing bar sash to ground floor in right end gable with semi-circular shell tympanum, Central half-glazed door with traceried semi-circular fanlight in Doric porch with grooved frieze and modillion cornice hood. C20 wood and glass conservatory projecting to right. Rear wing: timber framed and continuous jettied at lower level. Hipped tiled roof overall. Possibly the rebuilding of the manor house recorded temp. James I for Sir William Pordage (See Hasted, vol VI, p.116). Listing NGR: TQ9233961563
