This building is the most substantial surviving portion of the medieval Maison Dieu Hospital, founded in 1230. It was at one time a public house, but is now scheduled as an Ancient Monument and is used as a small Museum. It is a building with Cl3 base and early C16 timber-framed lst floor overhanging on the protruding ends of the floor joists on both the North and East sides. The North front slopes downhill from East to West. 2 storeys. 2 windows. Ground floor has been rebuilt in red brick on the North front, but on the East front is of flints with 2 narrow windows, medieval. The lst floor has the timbering exposed on the North and East fronts. Casement windows. Hipped tiled roof. Doorway in splayed angle.
