Description
RAMSGATE NELSON CRESCENT TR 3864 NW 13/271 No. 14 and railed Area 3.10.77 GV II Terrace house, now guest house. 1798-1801, altered mid C20. Rendered and painted brick with slate roof. Four storeys with basement horizontally rusticated ground floor and parapet to roof with stack to rear centre. Two C20 louvred windows to 2nd and 3rd floors, with 2 full height sashes on first floor with verandah with corrugated plastic roof, but with good ornate iron work with panelled piers, valancing, scrolls and scrolled and bifurcated balustrade on iron brackets. Plate glass window on ground floor with glazed door to right with semi-circular fanlight in keyed and vermiculated surround at head of flight of 4 steps. Louvred light and half-glazed outer door to basement. Spear head rails, painted bright yellow. Wilkie Collins wrote his best selling novel "The Woman in White" here in 1881.
