Description

RAMSGATE HIGH STREET TR 3765 SE (north-east side) 8/178 No. 153 (The Eagle Inn) GV II Public house, C18, altered mid C19. Rendered on flint with plain tiled roof. Two storeys and attic with basement on flint plinth with parapet to half-hipped roof with 3 flat roofed dormers and stacks to rear left and to rear right. Regular fenestration of 5 sashes to first floor and 4 to ground floor with canopies. Basement opening to left. Central double glazed doors in large projecting Doric porch with heavy cornice and rails, surmounted by an eagle, and with 3 steps to pavement. Large central wrought iron sign bracket. Left return with weatherboarded rear ranges canted bay to ground floor, and half-glazed doors in canted corner sections. The name supposedly derived from an eagle shot in flight over Ramsgate, at least before 1809. (Mirams Ramsgate's Old Pubs, p.15). Listing NGR: TR3793665283
