RAMSGATE CHAPEL PLACE TR 3765 SE and 3865 SW (north west side) 8 & 9/87 Nos. 5 to 19 (odd numbers) 13.9.74 GV II Terrace row. Circa 1820. Stock brick. Three storeys and basement with parapet. Stepped up to left 4 times. Numbers 9 to 19: each house unit with regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on 2nd and 1st floors, and 2 on ground floor, all with painted heads, and central door, originally of 6 raised and fielded panels, some now half-glazed, with semi-circular fanlight, some still with tracery surviving. Double rebated semi-circular surround with keystones and imposts. Simple iron rails to steps, and iron grills to basement openings to left and to right. The top storeys of Nos. 9 and 11 have been restored late C20. No. 7 is of only 2 window bays, those on 2nd and 1st floors C20 wooden casements. No. 5 with rusticated base. 1 glazing bar sash on 2nd floor, French window with cast iron balcony on 1st floor, and late C19 double sash in heavy moulded plaster surround on ground floor. Half-glazed door to right with rectangular fanlight and cornice on heavy brackets, and segmentally headed basement opening with grill. No. 5 is included for group value. The terrace is indicated in Collard & Hurst's 1822 plan of Ramsgate. The C20 infill separating this now from the similar row (Nos. 21-33) replaces the late C18 chapel which gave the street its name.
