Description

RAMSGATE SPENCER SQUARE TR 3764 NE (north side) 12/381 Nos. 38 + 39 and 13.8.68 railed areas GV II House pair. Circa 1802. Rendered with slate roof. Four storeys and basement with parapet and stacks to end left and to end right. Two full height bows with 3 glazing bar sashes on 3rd and 2nd floors to right, and 2 on 3rd floor to left, with blocked centre space, and 3 on 2nd floor. Eighteen pane full height glazing bar sashes on first floor with curved verandahs on simple piers with simple rails, and valancing to left (no. 39). Two central half-glazed doors, to left in fluted and moulded surrounds, to right in C20 pedimented surround, with single step. Simple rails with urn finial principals to basement area. Part of 10 houses built 1802, James Townley's first development in Spencer Square, by 1810 used as Officers' quarters while area was Cavalry Barracks. (Busson 108-9). Listing NGR: TR3788964539
