Description

RAMSGATE HIGH STREET TR 3665 SE ST. LAWRENCE (north-west side) 6/207 Free standing wall monument to Maxton/Holman families, about 30 metres west of Church of St. Laurence GV II Free standing wall monument. Early to mid C18. Stock brick wall, part rendered, extended with flint. The main section stands about 6 feet high with, on the eastern face, 2 identical tabernacles, with pedestal, festooned sides, brackets to open pediments containing winged cherubs on Rocaille scallops in swan-necked pediment to moulded panel surround, the earliest date decipherable is 1737. To centre is an early C19 stele-shaped plaque on a bracket. To right a flint walled extension, with segmentally headed chanelled rendered end wall bearing a plaque with heavy foliated consoles and segmental pediment with winged cherubs, trumpets and clouds. Attached to the western face of the main wall is a plaque similar to the Maxton/Holman plaque; festooned sides, brackets, open pediment, scalloped panel surround, and a festooned urn.
