1. 5280 COWDEN COWDEN The Square (North Side ) The Crown Inn TQ 4640 9/340 10.9.54. II GV 2. Late mediaeval hall house with early-mid Cl9 front. 2 storeys and dormers. Tile roof with one end hipped and 3 ridge chimney stacks. Ground floor. Painted brick with ontinuous corbelled course above windows. In centre, Cl9 projecting painted brick porch with tiled roof and ornamental bargeboards with centre pendant. On either side, 2 sets of casement windows in wooden frames containing square paned leaded lights. First floor. Painted tile hanging with bracket gutter and eaves. 4 sets of casement windows in wooden frames with square paned leaded lights. Above. 2 tiled dormers with Cl9 ornamental bargeboards and containing square pared leaded casements. To right, projecting signboard on bracket. Stone mounting block at right. Inside some visible timber, including one moulded beam, and carved crown post in attic. Tge Stable buildings, the Crown Inn and Gainsford House form a group with No 2 High Street.
