Description

HIGH STREET 1. 1614 (East Side) No 38 (Park House) Nos 40 to 44 (even) TQ 5354/1/13 II 2. Row of C18 red brick terrace houses. 2 storeys. Parapet with stone coping. Ridge Mansard roof, hipped at both ends. Coursed stone plinth. Basement and area with C18 cast iron railings in front of Nos 38 and 42. Flat arches of rubbed red headers over windows, Brick pilasters carried up 2 storeys between Nos 38 and 40 and 40 and 42. 6 widely spaced sash windows on first floor with slightly recessed portion to extreme right with one sash window. 6 modern flat-roofed leaded dormers. No 38 with C18 panelled door with top lights and rectangular fanlight over. One sash window to left of door. No 40 with modern slightly-bowed Georgian style shop front in pilastered frame with moulded entablature and sun- blind case over. Arched brick opening to left of shop with window with recessed C18 panelled door with fanlight over. No 42 with modern half- glazed door and sash window to right. Small modern octagon window to extreme right of No 42. No 44 with arched brick opening and sash window to right. Modern slightly-bowed Georgian style shop front in pilastered frame with entablature and sunblind case over. The front elevation of this row of terrace houses has been altered and restored at various dated and the sash windows on both floors are of odd sizes and shapes, some with glazing bars intact.
