LEIGH LEIGH 1. 5280 Powder Mill Lane (North Side) Great Barnetts Farmhouse TQ 5546 20/716 10.9.54. II 2. House of late C16 appearance, said to have been built by Sir Philip Sidney for his bailiff. 2 storeys. Left, 2 window section under hipped gable with attic window below hip. l-window projecting centre section, under gable, has overhanging 1st floor on ornamental brackets with moulded tie piece. 2-window right section. Tiled roof with tall central compound brick stack. Tile hung 1st floor. Ground floor of red brick with some blue headers. Windows C18 and replaced sashes with glazing bars in flush moulded wood frames. 6-panel door, in similar frame, under flat hood on carved brackets. Inside much exposed timber and old plank floors. Also much Tudor and Jacobean panelling, probably imported from elsewhere. One inglenook fireplace and an altered carved stone fireplace which also looks like an import. Listing NGR: TQ5549546510
