Description

1. 5280 WESTERHAM WESTERHAM The Green (North Side) No 15 (Church Gate House) TQ 4454 35/1366 10.9.54. II GV 2. C17 house with alterations. 2 storeys attic and basement, 3 windows. High pitched, tiled roof with 2 gabled dormers, bracketed gutter and moulded fillet under eaves. Front now rendered. 1st floor sash windows in exposed frames under shallow segmental arches. Ground floor carriage doors to left. Central C19 door of 6 sunk panels, with plain rectangular fanlight, under pedimented hood on C19 curved brackets with pendants. 2 sash windows on right. East elevation of red brick has left section under gable holding large chimney stack with tumbled brickwork to offsets. Bands, at 1st floor and eaves level, pass right over chimney; the lower one is broken upwards above staircase window. Various windows including 2 C17 croisee windows and 2 small lights with old iron bars. Inside, original oak staircase with spiral turned pitch pine balusters. Also some dado panelling and an C18 corner cupboard, 2 restored inglenook fireplaces and brick cellar with barrel-vaulted bays. The house was once an Inn called the White Horse.
